Dear coaches and family,
We all have a little break after our outdoor season to reflect and calculate how we did, overall. The
first indoor session is already under way. The second will start in February. Also, 3v3 boys indoor
tournament will be held at Iron Lakes on Monday, January 18 and the girls 3v3 will be held, February
15. Don't forget about the practice availability at the Rec Center in Lehighton. Indoor soccer is a
great opportunity to improve skill and conditioning. We have a few teams from our area participating
in the first session. It would be nice to see more teams and individuals play in the 2nd session. For
more information, click on www.ironlakessports.com or call me 610-7377-9213.
As I look back about 3-4 years ago since our move from the Lehigh Valley, I have seen our level of
play improve. However, I have also noticed we have a tough time filling the roster. Coaches would be
much happier if they could use substitutions. Last season there were a few teams that played down
with no subs. It becomes very hard for the players and uncomfortable for the coaches. I raise the
question of how we can bring more players to this program. We have the ability to choose from three
different cities to fill the gaps on our rosters and also have the potential to create more teams in the
future. At this point, I don't believe that we have quite the interest in a traveling team, or a higher
competitive level of play, as they do in the Lehigh Valley, NJ and surrounding areas. We do have a
lot of kids with great talent in the rec program, all the way up to high school. However, one thing I
noticed is that there doesn't seem to be enough desire in the players for individual hard work. We do
have to credit some kids because they do show some great work ethic and it shows. Of coarse, many
kids have dreams and have a vision of what kind of player they want to be, but most of the time the
road is not easy. It can be a tough road both mentally and physically, but if you are serious about it,
then all the hard work will pay off in the end. I want to thank the parents, because without their
support, a lot of this would not be possible.
Our job is to give them as much support as possible, and if the kids want to move to a higher lever of
play or a different team, then that is okay. I love coaching and teaching these kids all I know about
soccer, especially when they want to learn more and take their ability to the next level. I truly love to
see their passion in this sport!
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
There is a little motto that I read that I would like to share with all of you:
Four Things
Four things a man must learn to do
if he would make is record true:
to think without confusion clearly;
to love his fellow-men sincerely,
to act from honest motives purely,
to trust in God and Heaven securely.
